December 6th marks the anniversary of the Ecole Polytechnique massacre in Montreal. In 1989, a student, Marc Lepine, armed with a semi-automatic weapon shot and killed 14 women and injured ten others in Montreal. Lepine was considered to be an anti-feminist. The victims were: Genevieve Bergeron Helene Colgan Nathalie Croteau Barbara Daigneault Anne-Marie Edward Maud Haviernick Barbara Klucznik Maryse Laganiere Maryse Leclair Anne-Marie Lemay Sonia Pelletier Michele Richard Anne St-Arneault Annie Turcotte Canadians are asked to observe a moment of silence and to wear a white ribbon as a commitment to end violence against women.
