This week-long Hindu celebration commemorates the Goddess Shakti and three of her avatars: Saraswati, the Goddess of Knowledge, Lakshmi, the Goddess of Prosperity, and Durga, the warrior Goddess. During this nine-night festival, the Goddess Shakti is remembered with prayers and fasting.
